SEPT.7/8th 2013. FINALS WEEKEND - REPORT & RESULTS

Post date: Sep 09, 2013 11:31:27 AM

This year the weather was lovely during the season and all our competition matches were played more or less on time. It is good that so many Club members entered our competitions.

The triples weekend went well and the 2 winning teams played on Finals Weekend.

We were largely fortunate with the weather on Finals Weekend although at times on both days there was some rain. It was good to see many spectators watching the matches. All matches were worthy of Finals and were very competitive.

The Saturday of finals weekend saw Lindsay Bangs narrowly defeating Anthony Gander in the Handicap singles. Dave Bell and John Hardy beat Jim Slogrove and Geoff Harsant in the Men’s Pairs. Fred Knotts, Frank Bray and Steve Thomas then beat Carole Tuffin, Alan Somerville and Lesley Swift in the Triples. The afternoon saw Chris Jelf beat Mike Thresher to win the Juniors and Fred Knotts beat Jim Slogrove to win the Veterans. Carole Tuffin then beat Jean Edwards to win the Ladies 100 Up and in the Men’s Singles Lindsay Bangs narrowly beat John Hostler.

On Sunday morning Paul Chivers beat John Hardy in the Two Woods. Then Carole Tuffin and Kate Nixon beat Jan Derkatsch and Lesley Swift in the Ladies Pairs. In the Club Pairs Lindsay Bangs and Chris Jelf beat Marina Aylward and Pat Hutton.

On Sunday afternoon the Men’s 100 Up was won by Paul Chivers who beat Lindsay Bangs. In the Ladies Singles Julie Mulligan beat Chris Horsley. The Championship was won by John Hostler who defeated Gwilym Morgan. The Victor Ludorum was awarded to Lindsay Bangs.

A big thank you to all who helped. This includes Gwilym and his team who prepared and set up the green, the scoreboard turners (wiggies), the markers and our umpire Tony Nixon, Judy Bangs and Dave Clapton for a lovely BBQ each day, and to the bar staff. Also a big thank you to Fred and his team for all their hard work in making the club grounds look marvellous!
