SEP 14th 2023 - LADIES INVITATION TOURNAMENT

The 11 clubs invited to the tournament were met at the gate by President Fred Knotts along with ladies captain Sheila Currell and vice-captain Allie Mill.

The four ladies representing the Witterings were Julie Mulligan, Chris Bruce, Teresa Heathorn and Lin Seary.

Tea and biscuits were offered to all participants on arrival served by Sandy Paton and Bryony Gessiman.

The sun was shining and 48 ladies  were ready and eager to get the Tournament underway.  First they

played a spider aiming their bowls for the jack which was placed under Sidney, the biggest spider ever. The winner of a bottle of

wine kindly donated by Chris Horsley, was Gill from Rogate Bowling Club with Sidney surviving, legs intact, after being knocked all over the green.

Proceeds from this fun start will be donated to Wittering’s current charity The Donald Wilson Rehabilitation Centre at St Richards.Hospital,Chichester.

The organisers of this event were Carole Tuffin and Diane Leach who checked in all the teams making sure everyone knew what they were doing then collected and recorded all the scores from the three 8 end matches played throughout the afternoon.

Our lovely umpire Anne May was on duty and called on to bring her expertise into play.

With matches over the ladies adjourned to the clubhouse for a spectacular afternoon tea.

When all were seated at the beautifully dressed tables (flowers by Margaret) an enjoyable meal followed.

The food and teas were prepared and served by Val Hooker and Margaret Bowell who did a magnificent job and Sandy Paton very kindly made sure all

the 7 guests were also provided with afternoon tea.

Jenny, Allie and Dave Mill manned the bar during the day and Allie also provided the helpers and organisers with snacks, which were much needed.

Finally the winners of the Tournament were announced-

1st   Emsworth Ladies (for the second year running)

2nd Midhurst Ladies

3rd  Rogate Ladies

All winners were presented with vouchers by the President with the shield going to the Emsworth Ladies team

and a vote of thanks was given to all those who had taken part in such an enjoyable day.
