NOV 12th 2016 PRESENTATION NIGHT
Members and friends of the Witterings and District Bowls Club gathered in East Wittering Village Hall for their annual Presentation Evening. This began with a three course meal followed by presentations to all trophy winners and bouquets from Gwilym Morgan and Ros Hanbury to Carole Tuffin, Carol Morgan and Jen Knotts for their help. Presentations over, everyone took to the dance floor with dancing that surpassed the skills shown on the bowling greens. Numerous raffle prizes were claimed throughout the evening and a most enjoyable time was had by all.

AUGUST 16th 2016 LADIES INVITATION TOURNAMENT
Witterings Ladies Invitation Tournament. With the temperature soaring and sun cream applied to everything except the bowls six teams of ladies from surrounding clubs were all set for an enjoyable afternoon of matches. The end results were as close as an Olympic final with Bognor Regis on 32½ points, Witterings and Norfolk both on 32 points. After a countback Bognor were declared the winners with Witterings second and Norfolk third. A meal prepared by Tony Nixon and Judy Bangs was then enjoyed by all the players , with ‘waiters’ Glyn Dobson, Gwilym Morgan , John Heathorn and Brian Barnes attending the tables. Speeches and presentations followed with a vote of thanks to the Ladies Captain Diane Leach who had sponsored this very popular occasion. |
AUGUST 11th. 2016 MEN'S INVITATION TOURNAMENT
Witterings Men’s Invitation Tournament. Nine teams from the surrounding county clubs and three home teams gathered at the Witterings club for an afternoon of competition. With some close matches, Lancing were the winners with 30 points followed by Worthing Pavilion Bowls Club with 29 points and 3rd place was Southbourne Bowls Club with 27points. After the matches the teams enjoyed a hot meal of steak pies and all the trimmings plus a dessert. A vote of thanks from Tony Nixon (captain) was extended to sponsors Henry Adams Estate Agents,The Shore Inn and Bowling Abroad and also Waterhog Africa (a local company devoted to Water Well Drilling, Education and Safaris) for their donation of a special prize. |
AUGUST 14TH 2016 CAPTAINS DAY
Captains’ Day at the Witterings. On Sunday 14th August the Witterins Mens Captain Tony Nixon hosted and afternoon of friendly Matches. Four mixed rinks played 4 sets of five end each and the winning team was Carole Tuffin, Jan Derkatsch, John Heathorn and Sue Dobson (s) who won with 34 points. Tea was held in the clubhouse after an enjoyable afternoons bowling. |
JULY 30th & 31st 2016 TRIPLES WEEKEND
With a favourable weather forecast, 30 Wittering members were all set for a busy weekend of triples matches. Saturday began with 4 matches of 8 ends each with a break for a bar-b-que lunch after 2 matches. On Sunday morning 2 matches of 8 ends were played which decided the two sets of finalists who were: Ken Clark, Maureen Mulligan and Sue Dobson (34 points) and Anne May, Marion Corbett and Nige Miller (36 points). After an exciting match of 12 ends the result was a win for Ken's team 18 -9 and the end of a very enjoyable weekend of bowling for the members. Winners of the Triples Trophy - Ken Clark, Sue Dobson and Maureen Mulligan. |
JULY 16th 2016 PRESIDENTS' DAY
With our President looking as smooth as the bowling green and sun at last in a Mediterranean blue sky we were all set for an enjoyable afternoon of bowling. Fred greeted players and guests on arrival and before the matches started a 'spider' was played. Nearest the jack was Doug Holden who won a bottle of whisky which had been kindly donated by Paul Chivers. After the matches everybody enjoyed a two course meal in the club house before presentations for winners of the day took place. The winning team was Lesley Swift, Mark White, Ron Prior and Chris Horsley (s) and the runners up were Sylvia Smethurst, Chris Jelf, Jan Derkatsch and Lindsay Bangs(s). All received vouchers for their choice of purchase. A vote of thanks and tokens of appreciation were given to those who had helped in organising the day. APRIL 23rd 2016 ST. GEORGE'S NIGHT SUPPER
Forty club members gathered in the clubhouse and enjoyed a hearty roast beef supper provided by The Boulevard. Hard work and organisation by members ensured that the surroundings ,tables and guests were ablaze with red and white which immediately set a party atmosphere. After the meal an 'English' themed quiz was played, endless toasts were drunk and a most enjoyable evening was had by all. |
