FEBRUARY 2021 FIXTURES FOR THE 2021 SEASON
In spite of the uncertainty surrounding our ability to participate in matches during the coming season, a full diary of matches, both league and friendly, have had to be arranged. Opening and Open Day along with cleaning days etc. may have to be rearranged but this site will be kept updated for your information with dates and matches altered when necessary. We are following the guide lines from Bowls England and must adhere to their advice and ruling and can only hope that some of the restrictions will be lifted to enable more enjoyable games of bowls during the coming months. |
DECEMBER 31ST 2020 HAPPY NEW YEAR
Thankfully, the most difficult and distressing year we have all had to contend with is at an end and we must put our faith in the scheduled vaccination and testing programme which, hopefully, will enable us to meet each other once again. We have all missed the company, exercise and stimulation of competetive matches and with the beginning of the season just over three months away hope that the Club will be able to open it's doors to members, new members and associates as before. Ken Clark, our wonderful green keeper, has maintained the greens throughout the closed period and they look wonderful. Maintenance and gardening by our loyal band has continued when the weather has permitted so everything is ready. All we need now is freedom from restrictions so that all the members can come along and carry on bowling. A happy, healthy and peaceful 2021 to all members and friends of the Club. Fred Knotts. President. |
NOV 20th 2020 PHIL WHITE
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Phil White, a longstanding member of our club. Although his sight was failing and with the aid of his binoculars, he still managed to play a mean game of bowls and was determined that this handicap was not going to deter him. He finally had to stop playing but became a regular on the sidelines and was always welcomed with a cup of tea and a chat with the players. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife Sylvia and family. The funeral is on 3rd December 2020 at 1.15pm at the Chichester Crematorium with Covid restrictions allowing 30 people to attend. |

MAY 14th 2020 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
To All Members Just a reminder that the Bowls Club remains CLOSED. This will continue until such time as we are advised by Bowls England and Sussex County Bowls of all safety procedures that must be in place. Please continue to be patient - these regulations are for everyone's safety and benefit. For and on behalf of The Group Committee, Witterings and District Bowls Club |
MARCH 31st 2020 FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear members, We are now all coping with the restrictions imposed by the Corona Virus, not only on a personal level but businesses and clubs alike. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking committee who are doing their utmost to maintain our club during its closure with an aim to having it ready for use when the time arises. I am sure you are aware that materials for green maintenance, insurances, utilities etc. must be paid for whether the premises are used or not and unfortunately these expenses swallow the subscription fees. We are at present unable to raise any further revenue from new members, raffles, bar, green fees and visiting clubs so I am asking you to consider allowing the club to retain this years subscription until further decisions can be made. As basic running costs are well in excess of subscription income to date, we shall inevitably have to use our reserves to cover the shortfall so your help and understanding at this time will make such a difference. Any outstanding subscriptions are of course still due for renewal and will obviously help our situation. My thanks to Chris, Gwilym, Lindsay, Ken, John and Carole who have spent so much time in dealing with numerous problems on your behalf. Keep safe and well. My best wishes Fred Knotts (President) |
MARCH 24th 2020 CORONOVIRUS UPDATE
The Group Committee had hoped to hold a meeting on Tuesday 31 March to consider the way forward and necessary actions for the club, but given the latest advice this cannot happen. Discussion will continue and an update will be circulated as soon as possible but all club events are postponed as public gatherings are not permitted. If you have any matters you feel are not already being considered please let someone on the Committee know. Stay home and keep well. |
MARCH 18th 2020 HOW THE VIRUS WILL AFFECT THE CLUB.
The Coronovirus is now affecting all of our lives and will impact greatly on the coming season in every bowls club. We are therefore following the guidelines set out by Bowls England which will curtail all matches until advised otherwise. For up to date and more detailed information refer to the Bowls England website. |
